Why did they kill off Martin? (the Alexis Cruz character)

We watch this show every week. Tivo it so we never miss it. And we were shocked when they killed off the Martin character. We really liked him and we were looking forward to seeing his character develop more. Also, it was nice to see a Hispanic represented in such a positive light, as a lawyer no less. (It would be good to see even more minorities in good roles on TV.)
Has anyone heard why? Did Cruz not like his part?

I agree I liked his character. He was great on the show. I haven't heard why they killed him off. It could be a variety of reasons to the fact that he wanted off the show. Perhaps he had a better deal. He might have been meant to only be a temporary character. Either way though I wish they would have kept him.
