compared to just renting the movie and watching it at home. Which do you prefer?

I enjoy going to the movies and watchin them at home. Going to the movies is a chance to get out for a little bit but it costs so much after your ticket and drinks and food. Staying home costs much less and you can talk without anyone getting mad. I like the drive ins alot too

I used to love going to the movie theater to see new releases. Nowadays, I don't know whether it's just because I'm getting older or what, but I much prefer renting a movie and watching it in the comfort of my living room.
One thing I _hate_ about going to the movie theater is, the noise others make whilst the movie is showing. I like to be able to hear every word of a movie & be able to concentrate on what's going on, otherwise I just don't enjoy it (I'm picky, I know) especially if I've paid money to see it.
Some pluses of watching a movie at home are, being in control of the movie i.e. being able to pause it so you don't miss anything if you need the toilet or someone knocks the door. It's much more comfortable too, instead of getting a numb bum & sore neck from sitting in the same position for over 2 hours. Plus you can cuddle up with your loved one and watch it (always a plus in my book!). You can also eat & drink whatever you like without it costing you an arm 'n leg.
So yeah, much prefer watching movies at home lol.

Well put.... and I prefer watching movies at home too.
There are just a few movies that I still must see in the theatres for the awesome special effects that you just don't experience sitting in front of a tv. Mostly scifi movies...are the clinchers for me.

I sometimes like going to the cinema as a date, you don't have the pressure to talk about something, but also that nice moment to lay your head on his shoulder or hold hands or even kiss alittle ;)
But if we've been together for a while I like to rent so we could cuddle on the couch in a blanket.

good point. Being married for so long, I've forgotten about the romance implications for couples dating. To me, there are just some movies that don't have the same effect as a rental. Like Star Wars....all the awesome sounds and action that you feel like you're part of it when you're at the theatre. My husband and I have a rating system between us..... When a movie trailer is on tv we'll say okay...gotta go to the theatre, no it's a rental, and if it looks really lame...it becomes a free rental rating. It's fun. Con---costs a lot more at the theatre. Pro---it makes a great family outing or date time.

I prefer movie theatre because of the atmosphere...it is a familiar and comforting place from childhood..feels like home...UNLESS the screen is really dirty, the projectionist can't line things up right, or there are some loud rednecks yelling and hooting.

I much prefer staying home to watch my movies. In a theater I inevitably get in front of someone annoying. Case in point -- the last time I went to a theater there was an elderly couple behind me. He was hard of hearing, and she insisted on shouting at him throughout the movie. I only heard about half of it.

I do not see any pros for going to the movies theatre; it is loud, noise, people, and closed in. I prefer staying at home and renting the movie because; I can enjoy food, be in my pjs, lay down, pause the movie, and etc.

I like going to small movie theatres. I don't like the giant megaplexes. I like the smaller art houses or the theatres with a full service dinner. Those are fun.
