What is your stand regarding global warming?  | |  We are living in a postmodern society. TImes have certainly changed. Science and technologies proliferate in society. It has brought convenience to people. But, technologies do not come without a price. People seem to have forgotten that creation of new technologies entails responsibility. We have witnessed several natural disasters over the last five years and it is apparent that the intensity of the distraction which they have caused is much much greater than a few decades back. All of these things are caused, directly or indirectly, by global warming. We have discussed global warming in class and I can't help but be affected by its catastrophic consequences to our world. Trees are being cut down, so many species of animals lose their habitat, which leads to their extinction, and so on. Guess who's next in line? In about fifty years or so, it is not impossible that we humans would become inexistent if we do not change the way we live today. It's unfortunate that apathy rules our world. It's high time that we cleanup our act.

Scientists have heeded the signs and have moved the "doomsday clock" 5 minutes before doomsday. I would not dwell on the effects of global warming for such topics had long been exposed to the pulic. The significant issue that we should properly addressed to is what caused global warming. The World Ecomic Forum will be talking to China's businessmen and leaders regarding pollution emitted by Chinese factories. This may be one step but having a consensus on what measures should be taken is another problem. Lack of commitment too adds up to the near impossibility of finding a solution.
But it seems that to an ordinary citizen, the goal of eradicating or mitigating the threat of global warming is a task exclusively delegated to those in authority. The dominating mentality is: "GLOBAL warming connotes BIG problem. Let's therefore leave it to the BIG people."
True enough, students, mothers, and workers have a lot of problems to resolve that the issue of global warming is hardly being noticed. It takes each of us as "caretakers of the earth" to resolve what we ourselves have caused. Each of us have to take part. By collective action, we may not be moving the hands of doomsday clock forward but at least we can stop its forward movement.
Several websites offer us information on how to take part. Discussing the issue is one good start. Doing it in real life is another thing.

Turn of the lights when not in use, minimise watching TV, recycle trash conserve water...Am I with you?
This are little things we thought won't have any contribution but if every household will just do these little contribution, that will amount to a substantial effect in the long run.
