Are you as competitive as I am? |
| |
| I am so competitive about everything! I once had to "ground" myself from playing cards with my husband and his family for a time because I was getting so upset that I was losing that I was pretty sure that they were cheating to win. I've also stopped playing Candy Land with my 3 year old because she beats me all the time. Also two of my friends and me are trying to lose 30 lbs. by the first day of summer and my husband has to remind me to encourage my friends in their weight loss instead of making it a competition! But, knowing that we're all trying to do it pushes me to try very hard so they don't "beat" me. I know I'm ridiculous, but I can't help myself. Anyone else ultra-competitive? | | | | | |

| | I can be at times too. Your post reminded me of Monica from Friends. She was super competitive too. It can be funny sometimes. Don't let it get the best of you. | | | | | | |

| | Now, if I could only get people to compare me to Monica in other ways ... like you're as pretty as she is! LOL. I try not to let it get the best of me, luckily my husband keeps me in line most of the time...well, when he isn't competing with me! | | | |

| | I used to be extremely competitive. I would push myself in the military to be the best. I was the best in basic training walking out with more ribbons than anyone else in my graduating class. I walked out of tech training with the highest honors. I always strived to be the best. Even my partner and I still argue about who got the better testing score on the entry for the military! LOL But I have been able to let go some...for my kids sake. I don't mind playing games with them and they win. Heck, I often even let them win! But when my partner is involved and he laughs, forget it! I am completely competitive with him! I refuse to play any video game with him because he always wins and laughs when I point out that is why I don't like playing. He will argue with me that it is just a game. And I will argue that nobody likes to loose all the time. So, I don't play video games. LOL I do things that he is no good at. LOL Then, there is no competition because he will not even try. ha ha But yes, I am VERY competitive! But I find ways to try to avoid it. | | | | | | |

| | I hate doing things that I don't even have a chance at winning! That's why I won't play chess with my husband, I just don't think that many steps ahead! I used to play Risk with him and he would win every time. I finally beat him and haven't played with him since! LOL. With video games we have to play games where we're on the same team or I can't play. I think if there's something worth being competitive at it would be your military training. My husband was in the National Guard for 8 years and he was a very good solider. I think if anyone needs to strive for excellence it's someone in the military. My husband complained that there were always guys who didn't pull their weight or care about the training they received. Now that unit is in Iraq and I'm sure there's a handful of them wishing they would have paid more attention when they were stateside. | | | |

| | I'm not ultra competitive but my daughter is. I worry about her. Everything is a competition to her. When she was little playing games wither her was unbearable if she started losing. During one period in her life she would change the rules of the game so that she would always win or make up games with her own rules so that she would always win. I think this is a sign of an insecurity issue - like the cometitive person feels they are not 'as good' as the other person if they lose. But, What do I know, I'm not a psychologist. | | | | | | |

| | We play dominos (Dora the Explorer) with our three and two year old and after every game we announce who the winner is and then everyone shakes hands and say good game. The winner receives recognition, but the attention doesn't remain on them for long. I read today that when children begin to play games and they discover that they can't win that it's normal for them to change the rules of the game in their favor. This shouldn't be considered cheating, but instead it shows that they are developing intellectually. I think that it's ok to try playing games with their new rules, but also explain to them that just like they don't like losing it's not fair to make rules so that the other person doesn't always lose too! | | | |

| | See now I think it's wrong to let a child maniputlate the rules to be in their favour. The world doesn't work like that. Agreed that means that they are thinking, but it's not teaching them to lose gracefully and accept the rules are rules and you can't have everything your way. | | | |

| | I would not say that I am untra-competitive, there are certian things that I am really competitive in but they are limited to actually sporting events. I don't really get competitive over little things, I don't try to turn everything in to a competition. Oh yeah, screw your friends... You lose more weight than them and rub it in their face! Gee, I guess I am kinda competitive too. | | | | | | |

| | I will certainly tell my friends that it's my goal to, "screw them, lose more weight then them and then to rub it in their faces" ... I'll let you know how that goes over! | | | |

| | me! ok. i'm not sure if it's anything to be proud of but yes i'm probably just as competitive as you are - whether it is to look better or do something better. trust me. it's nothing ridiculous at all. after all, it's competition that allows progress. without competition, most scientist would probably be taking their own sweet time inventing stuff and we probably wouldn't have the existence of computers and the internet (and hence no myLot :P) yet. as long as it does not damage your interpersonal relationships, thrive on your competitive nature and bring out the best in you! :) | | | | | | |

| | I am also extremely competitive. I often wont even bother trying if i dont feel i can win which is a horrible way to me but i guess thats the way it is. Whilst growing up i remember having a very fierce sense of competition with my dad and he wasnt the type of man to 'play nice' so i had a chance. He would try and cripple me if he could lol. It did mean however that when i did finally come round to beat him at things, mainly sports it was so much more satisfying because i knew that he had put his all into it!! | | | | | | |
