Whats the longest you've had a hermit crab?

I have 3 hermit crabs. I have had one for like 3 years. He has a couple of buddies. The ones that I bought originally died but we bought him some new buddies because hermits are community critters. How love have you had yours?

We've had a total of about 3 or 4 of these creatures. Bought them for my neice. We searched the internet and printed out info on them. But we were never sucessfull in keeping them alive. Once we went out and buried the crab, only to find out he had molted and we buried his shell! The ones at the shop in the mall are amazing to watch, so many of them mixed together with their decorated shells and they just crawl everywhere. I was always afraid to hold it, afraid it would pinch. Do they really pinch and if they do does it hurt?

I have never been pinched by mine and I hold them all the time. Even when I give them a bath I don't get pinched. So I don't know if it hurts or not. I love watching them especially at night when they come really active climbing on their house and the branch I have in there. I've had the one for about 3 years now.

I have never counted how old most of them are. I buy more all the time, but I would say my oldest is about 4 years old. I once bought one that when he came out of his shell(to an extent), he and his shell together were almost as big as a basketball! I let him walk all over the place.
