If you're vegan are you always asked what DO you eat?

I'm constantly being asked what in the world I eat and am I afraid of not getting enough protein and calcium. I get a little annoyed having to explain all the time. More often than not, the person asking has a terrible diet lacking in variety and nutrition yet they think my diet is the bad one. Do you get these questions and how do you deal with them?

When my daughter was a vegetarian (for four years), she always got asked this over and over and over by the same two or three people (who couldn't seem to get it through their heads). The worst offenders were her grandparents. It was a generational thing. They kept saying, "Well, do you eat FISH?!"

That's funny. I got that same question a lot too or even "you can have chicken, right?"

Hi, I am a vegan and constantly get those questions. I am often tempted to reply that I I wat anything that hasn't been murdered or hurt in order for me to eat. However I am usually polite and say the same as you without the animal products.

That's a good one...if you ever do decide to tell someone that, let me know their reaction. :)

I have to confess... I do ask that a lot. I just cannot fathom no meat at all but that's simply because most of us have been raised that way. My daughter tried vegetarian for a while and to be honest, while it wasn't really hard NOT to incorporated meat.. it wasn't the best because she was continuously having cravings which obviously meant she wasn't getting enough of something. When I cooked a lot of pasta, cheeses (not total vegan I know), some eggs (again, not completely vegan I know), and stir fry with veggies.
