Politics or Politricks

Irregardless of your political party affiliations, how do you view our government? Do you believe they tell us the truth? Do you tend to fall in lock-step and accept whatever the politicians tell us as the truth?
Over the decades, we change political leadership from one party to the other and still there seems to be less accountability in government. Those of you outside the US, how to you feel about your government?

Hello Sigma,
I can't imagine how I missed this question from way back when.
I love your term "politricks". How appropriate!
Unfortunately, positions of power tend to attract those who desire power for personal reasons. I don't think that applies to all, but certaily a great percent.
People who desire power either have the moral compass to apply the rules of good living to their pursuit or they don't. If they don't, they'll often lie, cheat, and steal to get what they want.
Do I believe everything that comes out of their mouths? Absolutely not! That would be naive. For something to be believable, it generally must contain some shred of truth. I tend to look for the shred, and take the rest with a grain of salt.
My personal take on politicians is to lean toward supporting those who have given their service to the military, over those who have not. Simply because serving in the military is optional, and likely implies a willingness to adhere to the principles of honor and duty.
Moreover, I tend to read the body language of politicians very critically. And, explore the record of their past actions, as actions speak louder than words. Lastly, I always try to read through political-speak, to get to the deeper meaning of the words spoken.
It's terribly sad that deception has become so ingrained in our worldly affairs today. There was a time, long ago, when one didn't need to expend such an effort to seek the truth.

Oh my goodness Sigma, thank you so much for the kind words. I'm deeply honored.
I will admit that I would appreciate not having to put so much effort into discerning the true intentions of our elected, and hopeful politicians. It would be oh so nice to be able to take people at face value. Alas, that's not today's reality. And, since the actions of our elected are so impactful, not only to us here in the USA but abroad as well, I figure I owe it to myself and everyone else to support the most honorable representatives that I can.
I fully agree with you about employing our personal power for the purpose of improving our own lives. The basic reality of electing representatives is that we extend a little bit of our personal power to that rep., so that he or she is empowered to make the tough decisions that effect the whole of society. Hence the reason why I expend the energy to try to choose wisely. Afterall, I am granting them a bit of my personal power. I don't give that away lightly.
As for any run for the Presidency: Well, I will admit that you're only the second person to ever suggest such a move. The other was my husband. Although, he wasn't real keen on the whole 'First Man' thing! I think before I cross that bridge, I should probably answer the party calls for me to seek a state legislative seat first. Who knows, maybe someday. Oh wait, that's in another reality (as she shakes herself back into her own little rural world; chuckle, chuckle).
As for changing your views on politicians; perhaps it would be helpful if you got to know some of them. It really makes a difference. Once they become familiar with you as an active constituent, they tend to be more open to hearing your views. Plus, when they know you, it's harder for them to be dishonest with you, because they know you'll call them on it. But, they can't possibly know who we are unless we have repeated contact with them.
Sig, it really is very empowering to have the politicians have to answer your constituent questions and concerns. I never knew how impactful one constituent could be until I got involved in the state political arena. I am a member of my state's central committee, meaning that I sit among the body that selects who will be ballotted to run. I represent the voters of my district in that selection process. And, I can tell you that when I call or send an email to my U.S. Senator, I get a response! Any active member of either party can be elected to a central committee post. It doesn't cost a dime, only one's commitment to the voters. I believe that's how we make the greatest difference -- by keeping the blatant crooks from ever getting the opportunity to run.

Hi Luna, Great response. I don't think I could put that much effort into reading a politician. I am attempting to change my views on politicians. All I am asking for is the truth, even if it hurts me. You are right about power. But power is a imaginary thing only to the extent that you can get someone to believe and follow you. I believe in personal power to help us live better lives and not the lind that tries to control others.
I have to say that I am always impressed with your topics and answers on this site. You seems to have a down to earth view of many things. You could truly be a mentor to anyone looking to improve their thinking and lives. I really mean that. I don't know anyone in my personal life as complete as you are. You seem to have your life together and know what you are about. Will you run for President? You would make an excellent leader.

First off, they do not tell us the truth.. they tell us what they want or think we want to hear. They tell us what they think will make us believe in them then when they are in office, they do whatever they want to do.

I'm sure it's Politricks.
There may be some truth but it certainly is strongly diluted with pure rubbish.
