Writing and Self-Publishing | | I have always loved writing--poetry in particular. During my growing up years, my mother saved every poem I scribbled or turned in for a class assignment. As I got older, I wrote poems for special occasions and it seems that someone always saved a copy. About seven years ago, with the help of my mother and others, I pulled together all of my poetry and added multiple pieces which I had created in recent years and decided to self publish. I did all the appropriate Interenet research, and the end result was a very attactive book, professionally produced, and a personal delight for me, my family and friends, and to the many others who were interested enough to purchase my work. This was one of the most fulfilling ventures of my life. So much so, that two years ago, I had my second book of poetry published. Anyone out there thinking about doing the same? I would be happy to share some of my experiences with you and offer any advice you may seek. Hoping to hear from you.

I too enjoy writing poetry but I never really cared to share it with people until my family hounded me enough so I started putting some up online. I have thought many times about publishing a book but have never gotten around to it. I write to express my feelings and sometimes help me understand things. My writing is definately more for me than anyone else.
I know they say there is not a big demad for poetry but I disagree. i think there are more people interested that statistic give credit for.
Where do you sell your books? Send me a link if they are online and I will chekc them out.

| mzbenz (5) | 3 years ago | Hi there Sunny. Thank you so much for your comments. I submitted a camera-ready copy of my book to a professional publishing house. They alowed me to select among many templates and customize a design for my book cover. THey then made the copies and bound a designated number of books. For my first book I had 300 copies, and the second book 500. After my first book I found out I could have taken it to a local printer and gotten basically the same results, BUT, I was happy with the quality of the publishing house, so I decided to spend the extra dollars and use them again. I sell my most recent book thru Amazon.com. I tried to paste in the link, but I wasn't allowed to do so on this site. Here is an easy way to get there. Go to my web site, www.strictlywordsandnotes.com,, click on "Other", then in the first para, under "Commissioned Poetry" you can click on the words "Published books" and it will take you straight to my Amazon.Com location. I would love to read some of your work if you would direct me to where you may have posted some.

| | 2. arseniajoaquin (1497) | 3 years ago | I have published some poems at poetry.com and am compiling them to be published with Proverbs and Quotations but up to now, it's not yet finished.
I have been publishing at lulu.com I am a translator of the Word of God from Greek to English. I have already published GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English), THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), ELEMENTS of SALVATION, The Right Way, GOD, ORIGIN, TRANSFER into PERFECTION, GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and others shown at http://www.lulu.com/arseniajoaquin
I have not spent even a single cent in publishing these. There are no set up fees. Authors are not even required to buy even a single copy of their books. In fact I have not seen any copy of any of my books as I have no money and I don't even have any credit card.
