Oil Painting.... New to me

United States
January 28, 2007 12:50am CST
I have become accustomed to water color, and oil is new to me. I am self taught, meaning, I never went to school to paint. I am a real authentic amature. What do you mix your oils with to dilute them? Linseed oil? What do you prefer? Where do you buy paints? Online? They all seem so pricey by the wee little tubes... Again, sorry for the nOvice questions. Thanks for any reply

Possibly I unlike you as the teacher, but sometimes I then liked depicted when meeting solitude, I always bought the paint in the shop or ruko closest.

Have you heard of water mixable oils - W&N make them and they might be less toxic too!

I am not an oil painter, but I do acrylics. One of my favorite people to watch on TV was Bob Ross, may I recommend that you run to your craft store and buy a video and give it a try. A friend of mine does Bob, he has 0 artistic talent and he still manages some wonderful paintings.

hi, i'll say try to work a little with undiluted oil paints at first. trust me you'll find that it gets easier to handle them later as you go along. also, you will understand the different effects you can achieve by various degrees of dilution. am self taught too, but have been at it for a few years and i found this out the hard way. those i suggested this found the going easier. all the best and happy brushing.
