Aretha Franklin has truly earned her crown. She is the only artist that comes to mind in her genre of music that had ten top ten hits in a period of one year back in 1968/1969. Aretha has excelled in R&B, Soul, Blues, Gospel, Opera, Pop, and is still on the top. All the artists in the genres she has delved into that you can name today since Arthea's time, credit her with being influential in their singing. She is truly royalty. Who do you think is in class like her or close to it in our time?

Honestly, Lady, no ONE. I may have said Whitney, and some may want to give me the beat down. She was probably the closest. I may even say Janet. I WILL say Patti Labelle, although the two of them are contemporaries so to speak, even though Patti made hits moreso on a single basis in the 80s and 90s; Nevertheless, I would go with Patti because she's classy, she gives as good as it gets, she's got a great range, she is a queen in her own right and can't take it further. Some of them young girls, Whitney included are good. but Whitney brought herself down being in bad company, and though I got a lot of respect for others(Alicia Keys(particularly for her multi talent), Mary J Blige(who I would PROBABLY say is pretty close), them other ones is nothing but pups. plain and simple.
