TVs In cars  

We have a DVD player in our van but it is behind the drivers seat and only the passengers in the rear can see it (plus there are 2 sets of headphones available for it), so it's not a distraction. I couldn't imagine having it up front, to me that would be a major distraction and very dangerous.

In the words of the late Peter Boyle aka "Frank Barone": Holy crap! Drivers watching TV? Not very bright!In the back, if you were able to dismiss it as"background noise" it might be okay. The thing is, people watching TV are commonly reacting to it -- especially kids. If your kids are the kind who are quieted down by television, maybe. But up front, definitely no way.

Definitely not a good idea. Heard a story once of someone pulling up alongside a car with that thing going. On it was a porn movie and the person pulling up had children in their car. It is another distraction and we certainly don't need any more of those things especially in our cars. Will not have them and will have them removed if we get a car with them in it.

It could cause a lot of accidents if you are distracted watching tv while you are driving.

I can not believe that a driver had the nerve to have TV on and watching it while driving!! And they say cell phones are dangerous!!! No way! That should not be legal!

I like TV in cars for long trips also. We had a van that had a TV and we were able to hook up a VCR and a game system to the TV. It was really great because it kept them occupied during those long trips and their minds off of feeling car sick.
But for regular everyday quick trips...the TV never came on.
Oh! And it is great for when you are waiting forever and a day for someone in the car! I was able to turn it on with the kids got too loud and they had to be quiet to hear it! :)

I think that TVs in the back are ok for the passengers on longer drives but I dont think there shouldbe a TV up front where the driver can see it.
There are already way too many distractions(radio, cell phones, crying kids, nagging spouses)
The driver is not in the vehicle to watch TV, theyr are there to DRIVE and that is what the should be focusing on.

Well Tv in car may not be issue if its only for passenger. But If Tv is planted in front so taht driver too can pay attention, then its very bad. May be at certain timeimg of film, program....driver may get involved and find more interest in film than driving, and may not be able to concentrate on driving, thats equally fatal.

I dont have one in my car, and I dont care to ever have one either.

Not only do I think televisions in cars are unsafe but i hink they are a completely ridiculous notion. How much time does one actually spend in the car?

My sister just installed two in her backseats (for each kid) and a dvd player to keep the kids amused on long trips. I was like yeah thats good for their imaginations isnt it? What happened to ispy? and other games?

I think that driving with any distraction is unsafe--I don't even pick up my cell phone when I'm driving, because I know that I'm a better driver when I'm focused ONLY on the road.

Plus, I get carsick really easily, so I don't think that I could watch anything like that even if I was a passenger.
