Which of the ST:TNG spinoffs or films is your favorite? |
| |
| With the success of Star Trek:The Next Generation, itself a spinoff of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry and Rick Berman ensured that the visionary view of the future would thrive in the vast wasteland of TV and capture the hearts of viewers. The series, which originally aired from 1987 to 1994, was followed by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and four feature films. Of these, my favorite TV spinoff is DS-9, because it had a somewhat grittier, Ft. Laramie-in-Space feel to it and the relationships between characters was less idealistic than those created by Roddenberry. My favorite movie spinoff is First Contact. The other movies were okay, but First Contact was full of excitement and adventure...plus the evil Borg Queen! | | | | | |

| | I would have to agree with you, that First Contact has been the best film in the series. They covered many different aspects, including time-travel, and some of the best acting in the entire series took place on that ship when the Borg was threatening Captain Picard. "Blow up the damn ship." Great line! | | | | | | |

| | First Contact also has one of the funniest "inside joke" lines I've ever heard: uttered by Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell), it goes something like this: "You're astronauts on some sort of star trek?" | | | |

| | Wow, I posted this same question a day or so ago. Sorry I didn't check to see that you had already done so. That's something I have to work on...checking to see if my subject is already being discussed. LoL! Anway, my favorite ST series is TNG. I'm rather partial to Voyager also. I haven't seen DS9 that much, but when I have watched it in the past, it didn't keep my attention as much as the other two. Enterprise just didn't do it for me either, although it was okay. The original series was terrific in its time, but a bit cheesy to most people these days, but I still love it! I guess my favorite ST: TNG movie would have to be Nemesis. But I love them all. I really liked the 4th Star Trek movie with the original crew: "The Voyage Home." I love storylines that deal with time travel. TNG had several episodes about time travel also. | | | | | | |

| | Oh. yeah. "Enterprise." Forgot about that one, but that's more of a Trek prequel, even though the rank insignia used on the uniforms was a visual echo of ST-TNG's rank pips. It wasn't a bad series; I thought the premise was good, but unfortunately I think Paramount and the producers failed to realize that maybe TV audiences were "Trek-weary." | | | |

| | You could be right, but I'm ANYTHING but Trek-weary. I just eat the stuff up! But I just could not get into that one. And I tried so hard, not only because I'm a Trekkie, but because I adore Scott Bakula. Oh well, we can just hope the next one is better. | | | |

| | Do you think there will be another one someday? I do. But it will probably be a very long time. I'll probably be dead. | | | |

| | If J.J. Abrams' Star Trek XI does well at the box office next year, maybe Paramount Pictures will create another TV series. And I think you'll be alive to see it! | | | |

| | Star Trek XI? This is news to me! I guess I need to keep up with my sci-fi interests a little better! Can you tell me more about it? Well, I do hope it goes well, and that there will be another series. But this time, I hope they do it right with some fresh new characters and storylines. I don't watch much TV, but I'd watch another ST series. | | | |

| | According to both Paramount and J.J. Abrams, the creator of Lost and Alias has been tapped to develop and direct the eleventh feature film. Rumors (and I emphasize the word "rumors" here) have it that it will be an Original Series "prequel" along the lines of Harve Bennett's concept for a sixth feature film, "Starfleet Academy," that was rejected in favor of The Undiscovered Country. Those same rumors have it that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy have been either consulted or asked to participate in some fashion. | | | |

| | You talked about enterprise with scott bakula.. I was dissapointed it didn't go atleast seven seasons like voyager. And why did trip have to die. Love The Voyage Home too, especially the part where scotty tried to talk to the computer using the mouse and when M'coy cured an old woman with kidney problems. The voyager series had a lot of time travel episodes. | | | |

| | Of the series, I have to disagree with you and say I enjoyed Enterprise the most. It did get a bit obssessed with relying on action and special effects to try and grab more viewers, but it was the only Trek series I had stuck with all the way through since TNG. I get the feeling DS9 improved as it went along, so might have to go back and check that out sometime. Of the films, First Contact is undoubtedly the best of the TNG ones. Nemesis tried so hard to be good, but the bad casting of the young Picard didn't help a story that was also a bit rough around the edges. Probably the best one for space battles though. Put it on your surround system and crank up the volume! Nick | | | | | | |

| | DS9 had the distinct advantage of NOT having been created by Gene Roddenberry or vetted by him. Let's face it, his concept for an idyllic Federation/Starfleet where everyone got along, the ships were really exploration vessels rather than warships, and all the Utopian touches of Star Trek were fine from a certain sociological aspect, but lousy for television drama. ST-TNG didn't really get good until Gene stepped aside and let Rick Berman run the show, and even then it was "wussier" than DS-9, which embraced dramatic conflict between the characters wholeheartedly. | | | |

| | First Contact was a very short movie, but there was a lot of action in it. Plus being that they were back in time, we actually saw exactly what started Earth being the United Federation of Planets. I enjoyed Deep Space Nine also. At first, I did find it somewhat boring, but it really picked up when Michael Dorn joined the cast, & it constantly involved the Klingons. It was sort of sad to see Captain Sisko perish though, but it did answer the question of why his marriage to Cassidy Yates was going to bring misery. I enjoyed Voyager, too, but not as much. I was disappointed with the ending, being that they only showed the USS Voyager arriving into the Alpha Quadrant to be greeted by a bunch of escort ships & then that was the end. I would have liked to have seen more, such as greetings between the Voyager personnel & the other Starfleet officers. | | | | | | |

| | TV spin-off I'd have to go with Voyager, love seven of nine and B'ellana. As for the movies, I think your right First Contact was the best. Liked the story about the first warp flight of zefram cochrane, and ofcourse who doesn't love the borg queen. | | | | | | |

| | I am not sure that I really have a favorite because I enjoyed all of them. I guess that if I had to pick one of them though it would have to be Deep Space Nine. Like I said though, I enjoyed all of them to much to really pick just one as a favorite. | | | | | | |
