| | I love El Dorado and Rio Bravo.Have you seen John Wayne in Rio Lobo? It has a similiar plot to both El Dorado and Roi Bravo. It was made in 1970. By the way, all three films were directed by Howard Hawkes. Rio Bravo came first in 1959, then El Dorado in 1966.I saw them in reverse order.Rio Lobo was my first and is still my favorite.I think El Dorado is the better film.If you get the chance, Net Flix Rio Lobo. I have seen Blazing Saddles.I love it. It is my favorite Gene Wilder role.Your are right, nothing is sacred to Mel Brooks. | | | |

| |  OH I have Rio Lobo as well :) I love that movie. It's a bit different then the other two really but very similiar in others I agree. The main difference is no drunk in it for him to sober up and deal with.

| |  I really don't have a favorite western. But I love Gunsmoke and Bonanza. I watch it everyday on TV Land.
My favorite character on Gunsmoke is Festus and my favorite charcter on Bonanza is Hoss.
I just like seeing how they might have lived in those days.

| |  One of my all time fave westerns is Stagecoach, 1939 version with John Wayne. It's a microcosm of society with all its class distinctions and bigotries. And it demonstrates how those things can be set aside when we have a common goal.
I also like Silverado. Kevin Costner when he was cute. Kevin Kline, Danny Glover etc. Good drama, some humor. There are others but those two popped into mind right away.

| |  The Searchers is one of the best ever. I would also go with Stagecoach (the original 1939 John Wayne version), Shane, High Noon, and The Man Who Shot Libert Valance.

| |  It might not be a true Western but if it counts 'The Alamo' has to be high up the list. It is so moving and has such great stars in it. I like Richard Widmark films. It is a shame they do not make good western movies now.
