My mom use to have a recipe for Goulash. I remember it had elbow macaroni, carrots, hamburger, and tomatoes in it. It was one of my favorite recipes, but now I can't find it. I was just wondering if someone had one they could share with me.

Sorry, I don't have the recipe, but I have ate it before and didn't care for it. I guess people make it differently though cause what I ate had different things in it as well.

I don't know what the dish that you describe is really called but Goulash is normally something else. If you check the Internet for Goulash recipes you will find tons and tons of recipes consisting of cubed meat, either beef or pork sometimes with mushrooms, always onions, sometimes a carrot and celery. Hungarian Goulash with lots of mild paprika. It is simmered slowly and usually eaten with noodles that are cooked seperately. It is very similar to beef Stroganoff.

My mom got the recipe out of a magazine, it was one that someone had sent in, so maybe they called it the wrong thing. I will look around and see what I can find. Thank you.

I went searching for the ingredients that you mentioned. Here is the only recipe that I can come up with that is even close.

Mild 'Sweet' Tomato Sauce with Elbow Macaroni Bake
Yields: 6 servings

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 pound lean ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
6 ounces tomato paste
4 ounces canned mushrooms 1 carrot
1/4 teaspoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black
pepper
1/2 pound elbow macaroni,
cooked
2 cups shredded sharp
Cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS:

1. Cook beef, pork, onion, and garlic in hot oil until onion is golden. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, mushrooms, carrot, salt, pepper, and sugar, and simmer 15 minutes.
2. Remove the carrot and throw away--it is just there for sweetness.
3. Alternate layers of macaroni, cheese, and meat in greased 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle top with cheese.
4. Bake in a 350 degree F (175 degrees C) oven for 45 minutes

Remember that a recipe is a guide to go by and maybe this is the right recipe with a new name, and some of the ingredients tweeked.

There are so many versions of goulash out there that it's overwhelming! Everyone seems to have their own take on it, from a brown gravy style to a red sauce style... ground meat to sliced beef.

My version is pretty basic and simple.

Goulash

1 lb. cooked elbow macaroni
1 jar (32oz) Ragu Robusto Spaghetti Sauce
1 pound browned hamburger
1/2 diced green or red bell pepper
1/2 chopped onion
salt
pepper

Combine ingredients, bake in over 350 for 20-30 minutes. If desired, cover top with cheddar or american cheese for the last 5 minutes.
