I love granny squares. You can make alot of little ones to put together or make a big one. You might want to try www.anniesattic.com or www.freepatterns.com also. If you want to try some different pm me and I can send you some patterns that I have.

To me granny squares are one of the simplist afghans to make. Mostly double crochet and a few chain stitches. I've made several afghans from them. I've used mostly Red Heart yarn (to me the least expensive) in baby colors as well as variegated and solid colors. I am a left handed crocheter and learned at an early age of about 10 from an elderly neighbor lady as a young girl growing up. I would love to learn new stitches and advance to complex patterns. Good luck. Remember, with yarn, you can always unravel time and time again until it looks right.

Granny squares are easy once you get the hang of them. I found that where I joined at the end of the round I got a bigger gap. I solved this by doing the 3 chains to make up the first double and then moving onto the next gap. This way the last 2 doubles were in the same gap as the 3 chains and so the join was in the middle of a group of 3. Looked a lot neater that way.
