I saw an article in the paper about coloured diamonds being the new kind of status symbol -especially pink. They really are beautiful. So, which do you prefer? Coloured or the "traditional"?

Hello Urbangirl, I do love colored diamonds, especially pink and green. Of course, to find either in their natural state is extraordinarily rare, making them beyond expensive. Truth be told, I think that candlelight champagne diamonds are my favorite -- even more so than white. White diamonds tend to strike me as somewhat cold. Whereas champagne diamonds appear very warm and inviting. They naturally disperse gold and pink, as well as the natural rainbow of color found in white diamonds.

Pink diamond is gorgeous but I have always preffered the traditional wedding rings. I guess if I had a lot of money , I would upgrade to something like that. I am a May baby and that is Emerald. I always wanted an emerald wedding ring. Emeralds are so darn expensive though that I doubt I will ever have that happen. LOL

I love diamonds, there is nothing like the sparkle from a diamond. Colored diamonds are beautiful too, but my favorite would still be the traditional clear.

Ye I think they are also really beautiful- some of the colours are amazing. I hope to buy (a cheap 1!) next time I go shopping. I don't like the ones that are too big though, they look a bit silly. There defintely more interesting and trendy than traditional rings though.

Unforunately, i have expensive taste. i really love black diamonds. Of course i do not expect my future husband to ever purchase any for me...that isw just not right! A good friend of mine gave me two small pin-point blac diaminds and a few other stones. i am afraid to get the diamonds set as i feel the setting will overpower the stone, but they are nice to have.

Black diamonds? I have never seen one of those. Are they actually an opaque black or kind of clear black?

if it's not a color enhanced,i wouldn't mind one. i do like the blue colored ones. i don't know how true it is,but i'd always heard though to store the blues when not being worn.supposedly they'll fade.

Almost all diamonds now are color enhanced. It's a process called irradiation. And to get a blue diamond from irradiation is still rare. When you put a diamond in, you never know what color you are going to get - could be blue or canary or pink or it could be brown.

I don't like coloured diamonds. But I like more the pink and yellow variety of rubins.

I worked in jewelry for many years and we specialized in colored diamonds. We had tons of blues, aquas, turquoises, greens, black, and yellows. I have to say that canary and greens are my favoirtes. I also saw a few pinks, reds, and purples.

OK, I'm a shallow kind of girl!!! I love diamonds - in fact any kind of jewellery - as long as someone else is buying them for me!! I adore the pink diamonds - and also pink sapphires whch you can get nowadays too. I'm lucky my partner loves buying me stuff like that - so I have quite a few diffeent varieties!

can I asnwer saying that ...I just prefer diamonds!!!! If you are there wondering which colour I prefer the diamonds you are buying for me, oh please don't bother thinking too much..just buy them and be sure they are nice and true and elegant and give them to me with a big smile..I will be happy whatever colours they are..I am joking.I cannot even imagine somebody buying such a present for me. but I do agree with you..coloured diamonds are very fashionable nowadays even here in Italy. I like yellow diamonds very much but if I have to choose I prefer the traditional ones. even though I am not so strict about the colours of diamonds..I have instead a great passion for white gold..I love it much more than the classical yellow gold.

I was never big on diamonds. I don't believe that you have to spend the equivalent of three months salary just to buy an engagement ring. I hate to be a negative but I saw the movie, "Blood Diamond" starring Leonardo DeCaprio. I have heard of "conflict diamonds" before and find it hard to believe that the diamonds that are sold to the public aren't "conflict diamonds". Some sellers will do whatever it takes to fill the demand if the profit is high enough. I think that watching the movie should be required for everyone but that would be impossible. It should at the very least be shown in every high school. The only way to end the sale of conflict diamonds is to decrease the demand of all diamonds, or in other words, STOP BUYING DIAMONDS. I think if this movie was shown to every teenager, most of them would think twice before buying a diamond as an adult. The true costs of diamonds is higher than you realize and really shouldn't be a status symbol anymore.
