How do u train your dog??  

That is a good question. I was wondering that myself. I love my new puppy but its is painful to play with him. He bites and scratches so much. How do I stop him. The vet told me to put him on his back and hold him down with my hand until he calms down but he is a stong little puppy and I have small little hands. My husband had to take over after the pupp scratched me all up. It worked for him. The vet also cut his nails but we still need to file them down and I really dont want to get scratched up anymore in the process. Any advice anyone?

What's really most important is just making sure that your pup understands what you want him to do. Dogs naturally want to please you because you're their "pack leader". Make sure you praise him when he does things you like, like getting off of the furniture when you tell him to, playing gently, and going to the bathroom outside. Make sure you praise and pet him pretty much immediately after he does it, so he makes the connection. Scold him gently for things he does wrong like getting into your food, playing too rough, using your carpet as a toilet, but make sure you're firm but gentle and don't scare him. As with the praise, make sure it comes soon, otherwise your pup won't understand that you're scolding him for what he did and might just think that you're being mean and be more skittish and hard to train. There are some pretty good books out on house-training and training for commands, and when it's time for him to learn to sit/stay and etc, you could try taking him to a class for it. I believe most pet supply chains offer them pretty inexpensively. You could probably try Petco/PetSmart.
