I don't know very much about this guy yet as I just started reading his website and listening to some of his podcasts but seems to know lots about training dogs. I'm trying to learn too because we are getting a new puppy soon.
Here's a link to his website:

If he's still a pretty young puppy, he may not yet understand that you're his "pack leader" and that it's unacceptable to try and play that way with you. When he plays too rough, make sure you scold him firmly, but don't sound too scary or he may find you threatening and bite and scratch even more. In addition, you can also put him on "time-out" in his crate or kennel until he calms down. When he scratches or bites you, you can turn him over and hold him on his back gently but firmly enough so that he can't get up or keep scratching. Once he calms down and stops struggling, you can let him up. This makes him associate the negative result (being held down) with his action (biting/scratching you) if you do it consistently as well as reaffirming that you are the leader and not him, he will stop.

When your puppy does behavior you do not desire, tell "No" or some other negative word in a loud mean voice and cease playing with it. You must use a "mean" voice to differentiate from the voice you normally use when playing with or talking to your puppy. After a while the puppy will learn that this behavior results is punishment and no more play. However for this to work you MUST be consistent and do it every time.
