There is a store that sells both brand new and used items that I often go and so far I don't have any problem. The sad thing is I brought a friend and he bought a plasma TV and was so excited because the price is much less than in other stores. After a week of using it the TV just suddenly went "caput", it just gave up the ghost and was completely unusable.
My friend ask for my assistance and we took the item back to the store. The manager refused to accept it back nor accept any responsibility for it.
Instead, he pointed us to a big sign hanging on the store's wall that says "Caveat Emptor" which means no warranty, let the buyer take the risk.
Is this a fair trade practice?
Have you been a victim?

This is a clear reminder to not purchase electronics and major appliances without manufacturer warranty coverage. Besides the fact that buying a TV off the back of a pickup truck may be an act of purchasing stolen merchandise, there is also the fact that there is no warranty in case something goes wrong with the item.
I'll buy used clothing (I can get it cleaned), but I would not ever purchase a computer, TV, refrig, etc., without knowing there is protection from a manufacturer's warranty.
Most stores which put up signs like "caveat emptor" are viewed as having complied with the law. Is it ethical? I don't think so. But, I learned long ago the world does not work according to my opinion.
