So far, I have tried many different brands of facial products which claims to remove and prevent blackheads but none is satisfactory. Are there any homemade remedies that you can share with me - those of you who have similar problems?

I've also tried many products, but haven't found much to be helpful either. I read once somewhere on the internet and used this remedie. Regular elmers glue. I've tried it like on my nose and chin area and it worked! It works just like the strips but in my opinion even better. Just put in on your nose area like the strips or wherever you have one on your face, let it dry and then pull it off. I do it probably once a month and it works for me.

I have also tried strips for noses and chin but I didn't see a significant difference. Is Elmer a brand name? Not sure if they have it here in Singapore. Thanks for your suggestion.

Yes, Elmers glue is a brand. I'd be surprised if they didn't have that though all around the world, it's one of the main brands in glue. Like the glue kids use at school.

Steam your face gently over warm water or hold hot but not unbearable wet towels over your face. Then you should be able to gnetly squeeze any blackheads out, if they resist do not force them or you will make your face sore. Make a thin paste of honey oats and warm water and place on your face for a few minutes then wash off. Use a witchhazel toner or very cold water to close your pores, try this once a week.

I believe blackheads need to extracted. There are tiny tools you can buy to help you remove them. But you have to make sure your face and your hands are clean when you do. Some get deeper in your pore the longer they are there. To prevent your face from getting them, I suggest you use products that refine your pores so they close up and not attract dirt. Wash your face at least twice a day too.

Thank you for responding. I do have the instrument to remove blackheads but I think I probably have to go for a proper facial to have it done more professionally. Also, I do wash my face at least twice a day, sometimes more. I guess I should go look for a good cleanser that refines the pores once I finish my present ones.

Blackheads are pores that become clogged due to excess oils. Blackheads are caused by over active sebaceous glands (the oil producing glands of the skin). The excess secretion of oil expands and thickens the pores of the skin. The oil collects in the pores and hardens into a plug. The pores are then clogged with hardened sebum or oil. Since the pores are open, the tip of the clogged grease is exposed to the air and oxidizes, turning black. Therefore, it is important to prevent blackheads developing by keeping your skin not oily. Remedy for oily skin :make a homemade mask by combining one egg white and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply mask and rinse with warm water after 20 minutes IF you want to get rid blackheads, mix cornstarch with vinegar, plaster on the area for 15-30 minutes; wash off with washcloth and warm water. you can also put cold, cooked oatmeal on your face, it can help give you nicer skin without any blackheads on your skin.

Do not use the metal extractors, leave that to the professionals because you can really damage your skin and cause capillary damage. Exfoliation is the key, also using a clay mask once a week will help. Make sure that the products you use are not oil based. Look for products that are oil free and noncomodegenic, meaning that they will not clog your pores. The best thing to do is to go to an esthetician to get them properly removed. They can also get you on a proper home care regimen.

The exposed tip becomes oxidized and black, hence the name - blackheads . Oily and combination skins are most susceptible to these. The skin's most dense oil glands are located in T-zone. That is why there you get the most blackheads.

Combine 1/4 cup boiling water with one teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of iodine. Let mixture cool until it's comfortable to the touch. Saturate a cotton ball with this mixture and dab on blackheads. This will allow them to loosen so they can be easily squeezed with a gauze pad.
