BEFORE I became a member of myLot (about 25 minutes ago), I wrote in a "question'/discussion" about a set of Birks silver I received from my mother. It has 4 pieces: 2 seem to be coffee pots and 2 are tea pots. All have black wooden handles and black wooden "caps" on their tops. As most of us do, "I found this site (myLot) while on my way to trying to find something else." However, most antique silver sites are far too complicated and never really give you the information you're looking for. I am not so much interested in value as I am in the "history" of this silver plus the MANY other pieces my mother has given me over the years. I have a very old small brown paperback book titled "Guide to Marks of Origin on British & Irish Silver Plate (from mid-16th century to 1946) and Old Sheffield Plate (1743-1860." It is marked "7th Edition, 1947." It is jammed full of "maker's marks", "duty marks", "assay marks", "date letters" etc.,but I just CANNOT make any sense of ANY of it. Can anyone help me or guide me in this process? Thank you very much. (I do have a picture of the entire set together.)

At the very least you need to make a catalog of what you have.
1. Take a picture of each of the pieces
2. Write a brief description of what you think it is.
3. Make a note on the markings you find
Then post them on to a blog site, and then make a request on mylot with the link.
People may help you. I would.
Welcome to Mylot.
