Do you have a Home Owner's Association where you live?

Do you think it's worth the extra cost? Do you think you pay too much? I knnow when we buy a house we will NOT buy one in a neighborhood with an HOA. We are currently renting a house, and HOA is supposed to pay for trash, recycling and snow removal, and so far this winter, they NEVER once have removed snow, and the trash removal has been spotty, and recycling has only come once in the past 2 months. I think it's a waste of my money!

No way, am in the country on acreage and unzoned. Freedom is our main thing. Also don't like living close to others. Need animals and a large garden. So sorry that yours is such a dud, have heard of some so militant they were oppressive and others that were wonderful. Good luck with any decisions you might make.

We're with you, and buying a big piece of land this spring to start our farm. NO HOAs, and I can't wait! I just found out that a large part of what my HOA covers is a CONTINGENCY FUND FOR THE PEOPLE WHO ARE DELIQUENT! My HOA pays for the people who don't pay theirs? That's hardly fair!

Not all HOA are like the one you are experiencing. Many of them do what they are suppose to do and quite a bit more. The perks of having an HOA are not having to worrying about your neighbor up keeping their property or not mowing their law, people doing silly things to their homes and adding on crazy additions, loud music, etc etc that you would have in a traditional neighborhood. Personally, I would move into a neighborhood with an HOA to avoid these problems. Plus, when you sell your home, homes in areas with HOA's often sell faster because people don't want to deal with the "what if's".

Where I used to own my home, the city had rules and regulations. You had to get a permit to do work on your house, the city could fine you for not mowing your lawn, or shoveling your sidewalk. And the city ALWAYS removed trash, recycling and plowed our streets. Granted, my city taxes paid for these services. But I also didn't have busy body coming around complaining that they could see my trash can peeking over my fence. I pay a LOT of money every month, and I no longer get reliable trash removal, recycling removal or snow removal. But that busy body is happy to report that they can see my trash can peeking over my fence. I think it's a waste. I had no idea HOAs sold faster! I know I don't ever want one again! (and an FYI, we get notices about our trash cans being in view, but the guy across the street from me has 3 cars on blocks in the STREET, and they are rusted out junkers that have been there for ages, and I've even had to tell kids to stop playing on them, for they might get hurt, and the HOA doens't care about that, but my trash can is a problem.) Just my perspective...

I do not, but my friend does and she lives in a townhome. She pays a very expensive amount and the service she gets in return is of a very poor qulality. I do not think much of these HOAs at all form what I have heard!

I have a homeowners association and I dont like them, they dont do anything and the convenents they have, they only enforce if and when they want to. Its a total waste of money.
