Selling your vehicle

Before sellin, check with the "Blue Book" the current price for your vehicle and what can you ask for it. Once you have that price, see how much would you really want, and then put a little over price so if you have to lower your asking price, you;ll still get what you are looking for. I would not sell it on eBay, but I would probably put an ad on the local newspaper, and see how many people respond. Deal with "real" people. A car is a good amount of money, and well, I don't trust too much e-Bay for those things. Good Luck!

Firstly work out what price you want for you car, then add some to allow some room for haggling over price. Give the car a really good clean and sort any paperwork for the car.

Next advertise the car for sale, this can be in a local paper or one of the various magazines (in the UK we have one called autotrader). Make the advert as descriptive as possible but of course with newspaper adverts you will be limited for space.

If selling on ebay take plenty of good photos and be very descriptive with your auction, don't forget that on ebay you have lots of spce for information. On ebay people like honesty so list any faults that ou are aware of no matter how minor they may seem. On ebay I would encourage buyers to view the car before buying as it can save problems later on. One advantage of ebay is that you don't have to worry about haggling on price, that will be decided by the auction process. Don't forget to set a reserve price.

If selling outside of ebay then expect the potential buyers to pick faults with the car to haggle on price. Just make sure that you have in your mind the minimum price that you want and be bullied into going below. There are plently of other buyers out there. Of course if you are after a quick sale then you may have to accept a lower price than you would have liked.

Finally, be very carefull about how the car is paid for. Cash is good but don't forget to check the notes for fakes. A good tip is to go to the bank with the buyer and pay the money in immediately, then it is checked by the tellers. If the buyer is paying by check then I would wait for it to clear before letting the seller take the car. Many buyers may ask to leave a holding deposit while they arraneg transfer of the money.

My dad does this a lot and I would recommend advertising in the buyer's guide or one of those free car magazines. As far as tips to make your car sell for the most you can get out of it, be completely honest, because that is only fair to others for their safety. Also, wash the car so it looks nicer, and clean out and vacuum the inside. And you could try ebay motors, but you have to keep in mind traveling expenses if you sell it to someone in a different state.

I am thinking about buying a new car and have been debating on whether or not to sell or trade my car in. I probably could get more by selling but not sure of the procedures. I definitely plan on cleaning my car out to increase the value of it. You should have the car tuned up and any problems fixed so that you can get the most out of your car as possible plus not have the buyer complain to you later about any car problems.
