Have you ever gotten your blood drawn? |
|
They had a blood drive at my school and I decided that I would participate since its for a good cause. Well I didn't think it would be that bad until I got there, then I got really nervous. I layed in the bed and I held my friends hand so tight I think I hurt him, I'm very afraid of needles! It also kind of freaked me out when they kind of squeezed the bag of blood to mix it, and then when they picked up the bag after I was done they set it on my stomach. And later that day I passed out, and was brought back to the drive so the nurses could take care of me lol. I did not like it one bit! But maybe next time will be a little less nerve wrecking, I will probably do it again. What about you? Any bad expierences? Or is it not a problem for you?

1. DreamIsDestiny (169) | 2 years ago | I used to be terrrrrrible at getting my blood taken. I'm anemic, so I now have to get my blood taken kind of frequently. I also get tested for mono frequently. So, I'm okay with them taking a little bit if blood: a couple vials, maybe. I've alwyas wanted to give back, though, and give blood. But I'm afraid of the bigger needles/ taking more blood. Also, since I am anemic, I am disqualified from giving blood.:(

x3temptationx (559) | 2 years ago | Oh that must be horrible I can't even imagine getting blood taken from me that much. When the nurse poked my finger for blood for a quick test I almost had a heart attack! I don't think I could do it that much. Thanks for the reply!

2. dutchess67 (695) | 2 years ago | I've donated blood many times throughout my life and have never had trouble doing it. I've never felt faint or anything either. Good for you though, on donating. It's a very worthwhile thing to do. You know you can also have it credited to yourself or your family at your local hospital in case the need ever arises to have use of it during a hospital stay.

4. Smithfamily (1618) | 2 years ago | I have always been anemic so i could never participate in the blood drives held at school. A lot of my friends would do it every year and every year they would pass out! They get so nervous and so weak when the blood is drawn that as soon as they'd get up from the chair and try to walk they'd pass out. They were my two best friends so i'd freak when i'd see them do it but i knew it was normal. The nurses tell me a lot of people feel weak afterwards so it's completely normal. I hope this doesnt change you wanting to donate next time. Donators save lives so the sacrifice is worth it! Thanks for donating!

x3temptationx (559) | 2 years ago | Yeah the nurses were telling me that it was a normal reaction when that happened so the passing out part won't really freak me out too much. But yes the only reason now I would do it is to help out so even though it freaks me out sometimes I'm also really glad to do it!

5. cassidy22 (2671) | 2 years ago | Giving blood is a very GOOD thing to do, as you can help a lot of people! You should have been given food, as giving blood lowers your blood sugar level, and you need to boost that so you DON'T faint later. I found out the hard way giving blood when I was 17 that I have a heart condition that causes seizures. I had a seizure on the table with the needle still in my. It took four nurses to hold me down and get the needle out. THey told me never to give blood again! I actually went through hypnosis training to get over my fear of needles, but loss of blood will still trigger me to have seizures.

6. hcromer (2198) | 2 years ago | The only time in my adult life that I had blood taken was to test for a thyroid problem. It took 3 people to take my blood, it freaked me out so bad that I was crying for the rest of the day.

7. somnolence (399) | 2 years ago | I have to have blood drawn a lot for health problems, but not a whole pint or anything, just a few vials at a time. I have had that happen a lot where I pass out, get really pale and sweaty and my blood pressure goes down. It's called a vasovagal reaction. It's not anything dangerous, but if you tend to have them it's best to be lying down any time you have blood drawn. It can be dangerous if you are sitting upright and suddenly pass out.:)

| 8. Krisellamae (39) | 2 years ago | we have also a blood drive at school way back sponsored by the red cross. But its just voluntary if you just like only to donate. They say its good to donate because when taken a blood it will help our body renew blood and get rid of those old and so on so forth. I think its a good idea in a way i can help but i am really scared on injection and needle thing. I will feel nervous and i will really turn pale whenever i saw an injection and needle.

9. allshookup (435) | 2 years ago | I've only drawn blood for myself! I had to have surgery and they wanted back-up blood just in case. So, I had to always drink a lot of fluids because it made me dizzy. They made me chug ORANGE JUICE. Who chugs OJ? I'd rather them give me tap water. But, it was for a good cause. Me! lol
