What happens when the wife becomes the breadwinner and the husband stays at home looking after the children and the house? What happens when the wife earns twice or thrice than the husband's? What happens when the wife has more stable job while the husbands is dubbed as an occasional worker or an professional job hunter? Through, there is no law that prohibits men from staying at home and managing the hous, this "unusual"set-up is seemingly still unaccepted in the system of men.Husbands receive flacksfrom inlaws,friends,co-workers,and miserably from themselves.

I've seen this situation countless times. Most of the time it will lead to depression and envy on the husband's part. It's in my male genes that says I'm the one who should be the breadwinner, I should be the provider, I should be the man of the house(figuratively speaking.) Times have changed. Life is more dynamic now. The world and all it's opportunities are for everyone, no one is excluded. I wouldn't want to be in that kind of situation. I'd feel like a total loser to my wife, family and to myself. Instead of being an asset, I'd be a burden. Even if I contribute something around the house like home cleaning, taking care of the kids, cooking... it's still different when you're out there and working in the corporate world. You feel that you're part of something. You feel that you're making a difference.

I think there is something deep inside of us that sees the male as the breadwinner and the female as the homemaker. There are special circumstances in which the roles might be reversed such as physical illness that makes it impossible for the husband to hold a job. I don't think attitudes will ever change completely about this. Women seem to be created with a more nurturing personality. This makes most of them more suited to caring for children--especially very young ones. Men usually have an inborn desire to protect the family. I don't really see the fact that the woman can "earn" more as a good excuse to trade roles. With few exceptions, I think they should fulfill the roles they were born to perform.
