| I have seen these little guys before, youknow, the dogs that can sit in the palm of your hand, and they are absolutely amazing! how the heck did they breed them so small? weighing only oz's, it is hard to believe that they are a dog at all! | | | | | |

| | I have a ferret like that, likes to climb behind the fridge, under the stove, doesn't matter how much you try to ferret proof your home, little gal always needs to be supervised. It would be cute to know how a teacup owner deals with this! | | | |

| | Oh I would love to have one of those little dogs. My daughter just saw on in the pet store and it cost over $1,000. I would never pay that kind of money for a pet no matter how cute it is. But if someone gave me one I sure would take it. LOL | | | | | | |

| | All the teacup varieties are adorable, but I like big dogs myself. Size preference is bred just like any other trait that's desired by consumers. You breed the smallest of the litter to a mate who is also small (hopefully also thinking of other health concerns & temperment when choosing your breeding stock). Then from that litter, you again choose a healthy, even tempered, little female & either breed her back (selective in-breeding) or out-breed her to another line with similar traits. Sometimes selective breeding turns out amazing lines of dogs, but sometimes it is to appease consumer's 'fads' that aren't always in the breeds best interest. Pit bulls that are bred to be fighting stock would be a good example of bad selective breeding. | | | | | | |

| | One of the kids we used to have as a foster kid recently got one (at $450.) as a gift for me. Sadly, we can't have another pet at our apartments so he had to keep her which he was thrilled about so it worked out allright. Actually they aren't bred that small they are actually the runt of the litter. They aren't actually a breed of dog but ppl refer to them that way b/c they are so small. If you look them up through a google search there are several sites that can give you alot of information on them. They are beautiful little dogs though and should be ever be able to have another pet...I'll be getting one. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~ | | | | | | |

| | Firstly, there is NO SUCH THING as a teacup chihuahua or a teacup yorkie. THese breeds are tiny as it is. But unscrupulous breeders take the runts of the litters and breed them in hopes of creating a tinier and tinier dog with no regard to health. Many of these dogs have heart problems, seizures, or their soft spot never closes. And they frequently don't live long lives. And most of the time, the mother dog must have a c section because there is just no way she could deliver the puppies. SO the teacups you see are runts bred to runts or suffer from dwarfism. Chihuahuas, yorkies, toy poodles, maltese are small enough as it is. In their proper sizes, some of these dogs are as small as 3-4 lbs and don't need to get any smaller because of someone's greed. | | | | | | |
