Publisher of the New York Times was quoted yesterday as saying that the newsprint version of the Times will likely not even be printed any longer in five years. Why would anyone be really surprised about that?Last week, Microsoft founder Bill Gates stated that television networks were basically dinosaurs because online TV is the coming thing. People point to lack of definition and clarity of picture and sound for channels like YouTube or Veoh, but the fact is that people do not access these sites for a clear picture. They couldn't care less about HDTV or Blue Ray DVDs. Was this not forecast years ago? They care about what all the other members are submitting to these sites, and the fact that anyone with a $20 webcam can record and ship out their own photos and video in a heartbeat. A cheap heartbeat. Scads of teens are using cellphones for almost all communication and entertainment purposes. Traditional TV networks are stunned, and the exploding video Web sites are stealing away the global audience. Well, now the TV experts and crowing that Google can't afford the bandwidth to get into full-blown Internet TGV but, sorry to say folks, Internet TV is already here! Google will recover faster than anyone will imagine, having already bought out YouTube, and real TV on the Internet will become a fast reality. Time to position yourself for the future, and take advantage of this shift. TV and most radio will be obsolete in just a few short years, maybe months. Catch the wave.
