Ending breastfeeding

Ok, I've read in most books and articles that the baby would eventually lose interest in breastfeeding and that you should just wait for that moment. Well, correct me if I'm wrong but I had to force my eldest to stop breastfeeding at 22 months because he still wants to continue. I had to stop him because I was already pregnant with my second. Now my second is a year old and, though she drinks formula when I'm out, she doesn't seem to be interested in stopping. Any suggestions or insights on what I can do?

Well, I can't give you any advice from personal experience. My son weaned himself at only 6 months. But I can tell you what my friend did. Her son was almost 3 before he stopped, though. But what she started doing when he was about 2 was just to quit offering it so much. She would give him a cup of milk instead, and only nurse him in the morning and at night. Eventually he decided he didn't need it anymore.

Hello, sorry , I do not have any suggestions but just want you to know that I'm facing the same problem as you. My son is 21 mths old and he does not seem to have any intention in stopping either. My son drinks formula twice a day but he is perpetually coming to me and wanting to suckle. He's treating it as his pacifier. I'm also wondering when he will lose interest in it.

Sorry I have never had this problem. The only thing I can suggest to do is to offer more drinks out of a cup during the day. Keep telling her the cup is good and that she's a big girl now. I hope this helps.
