What clothes for cruise Western Mediterannean in September?

We are 1st time cruisers going to the above area, starting in Barcelona and finishing in Istanbul in September 2006. We are on a freestyle cruise, so we won't need tuxedos but what else should I pack, what sort of temperatures should we expect. Is air conditioning on ships cold.
