the lights of this 1995 subaru legacy stay on after transporting a bed and closing the hatch did something short out/wire problem? parklights stay on? front and back

There is a switch on the top of the steering column (at least on my 1996 Legacy) that turns on the "parklights". The parklights are the same as the "parking" lights switch setting (Off/Parking/Headlights), EXCEPT the dashboard lights are turned off. Flip that switch, and you should be fine.
Guess it's used when you're parking and don't want people to see you sitting in the car? Hmm.
