I am a dyslexic. What does that mean? Dyslexia is an inherited condition that makes it extremely difficult to read, write, and spell.
It doesn't mean that I am stupid, in fact many dyslexics are of above average intelligence. It does mean that I can't read or write it's just harder for me than those that are not dyslexic.
Do you have a disability or know anyone that does? Do people treat you differently because of it or do you treat someone with a disability differently?

I know a lot of people with disabilities (including myself actually), and all of us have at some point had to deal with people who just don't get it. It can be very frustrating.
My husband has an obvious disability which causes him to walk with a limp, and he gets a lot of sympathy. Unfortunately he also gets a lot of people trying to do things for him that he's perfectly capable of doing himself. He's a pretty physical guy, and he gets annoyed when people act like he can't do anything.
I, on the other hand, have a less obvious disability. Which usually means people seem to think I just made it up, or that it doesn't hinder my life. After falling and hitting my head on very hard surfaces twice this week, I certainly don't feel that my life isn't hindered. lol
I try to treat everyone the same. I wait for people to ask for help if they need it, or I offer the same help to everyone. I can't imagine myself treating someone with a disability differently than anyone else. There have been times when I have been accused of not being "helpful" enough to a friend of mine with cerebral palsy, but she in fact defended me to the person making the accusation, saying I was acting in exactly the manner she wished. So I'd like to think I'm succeeding in my quest to treat everyone equally. =)

Good for you and for those that are lucky enough to have you as a friend! I try very hard to do the same as you. I hope that I never treat someone differently because they have a disability. Are because they think or feel about thing differently from me.

I have a disability. When I was younger and it was more obvious people did stare and make comments. Now that i'm healthier and its not outwardly apparent i'm treated like everyone else. I think that people may not know how to react to new things, and disabilities are usually new conditions to them. I treat everyone the way I want to be treated, period.
