How early should parents start disciplining their child?

I was talking to a teacher while I waited for my grandchild who was in the prep. We happened to talk about discipline and she said, as soon as the baby starts to cry, parents should start to discipline them by not letting them know that they can get anything they want. Do you agree? Does this sound cruel?

A child of two can learn some discipline before that it is too early. Babies don't understand right and wrong. They just know what they want and need.. When they are around two they start understanding more. The best form of discipline for a two year old; in my experience; is a time out for two minutes. If you follow through on what you tell them they will learn what is right and what is wrong and to listen to their parents.

If there is only one child, it is difficult for parents to discipline the children. When there are two kids, you want to have a discipline so you enforce at the child's age of 2 onwards. One thing is certain, whatever is your love for child, no one want to like an indisciplined child.
