recently a friend gave me a couple of baby outfits. She has a baby younger than my five month old. One outfit was yellow the other white. I couldn't figure out what the problem was. She has a boy and i a girl. She felt that the detail on the collars were too feminine. I couldn't believe it. If I had had a boy I would have put him in pink without concern. As you can see my girl dresses at times in what may be considered boyish clothes. I ask you, why gender them this early?

A long time ago all babies were dressed the same. You can see it in the old seipia photos of families where the baby is dressed in a white fluffy dress and bonnet. Today we are very fashion conscious and get offended when someone calls your little girl a cute little boy or the other way around. My daughter spent the first two years in a diaper. Now she prefers a t-shirt and pants, but will play dress up with her dresses. I see no reason to enforce a gender role, especially that young. Maybe good fashion sense when they get older.

I hear you! I don't like genderizing them either! I did the exact same thing as you. My eldest is a girl and I did NOT buy her anything pink at all. Whatever pink stuff she had were gifts. A year later my eldest son was born. Sure I bought his "boy" colors, but I made him wear what his sister outgrew, including the pink stuff.

My hustband drew the line at having his son wear dresses! hehehehe. Although he did bend a little bit and made our son wear those shirt nightdresses during our son's toddler years....ones that his sister outgrew:)

Its hard enought to dress ourselves but now we have to worry about our little one's clothes. I'd rather see a boy in pink then looking like a walking advertisment for some toy brand. I cant get over how many outfits I was given with brand logo's all over them. My little girl wears her race car sleeper all the time. Its my favorite.

Well I have a little girl and I love to dress her up in cute girly clothes. There is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with putting them in boyish clothes either. Its up to the parent to decide. My daughter certainly has many unisex toys especially at the moment.

I have to agree with you on this. My daughter's room is blue and although I encourage her to not worry about wearing pink and red, its to no avail. Their her favorite colors...Red, Pink and Leopard Print. I tried!
