Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I do and go all out. I am Italian, Irish and German. If that isn't a mixture. You know my dad was one hundred percent Italian, he came over here from Italy at a young age, and that man would put us to shame on his total enjoyment of St. Patrick's Day. My dad has passed away some years back but do you know when St. Patrick's Day comes around I can still feel the fun my dad always had. He had a sparkle in his eye and a light step to his walk. He would play jokes on us the whole day long and no one was safe. I enjoy St. Patty's Day the same way. Working at a nursing home is great because I always where something tied in with the day. Last year I came in with green hair and a tall green hat and vest. You should have heard those people who live there crack up laughing when I walked in the door. There was a lot of them who had made the comment to me----only you, crazy as a bed bug--and I got hugs from them all. And my holiday is coming around once again. Hip Hip Hurrah!!!!!

I too am Irish then add in a hundred other things but I take great fun in the Irish part - yes, have red highlights in my hair and an even redder temper but I do love St. Patty's Day. I don't go all out like it sounds you do but I never forget the day.
I want to commend you for the great joy you must give the people at the home. I know how so many people in nursing homes don't receive a lot of joy and happiness and I think it's spectacular that you share some with them.

When I leave the nursing home at the end of my shift I carry them home in my heart. I always go around and tell them bye and let them know I am leaving. It is not a chore for me to go to work. I love my job and the fact that I can bring sunshine into their lives. I can't wait until St. Patrick's Day because I am getting another outfit up different from the ones I have worn the last three years. Each year I wear a different getup and come into each person's room. They are special people and anything I can do to make their lives a little better I just thank the good lord above he directed my footsteps to this particular job.

I know what you mean, until this past Nov. I worked at an adult foster care home (all with mental disabilities) each one had such unique personalities I loved everyone of them and many a day I came home in tears because of one of them being in pain or anquish. I miss them so much but say a prayer for each one every night. The management basically drove me out because they were afraid I was gaining too much information and may say something to the wrong person. Rather stupid of them in my thinking and they thought they won but they didn't and I know what goes around comes around.

You would never do anything that would harm those lovely people. What were the head people afraid of. That was so just not nice of them. I know you have to miss them because the elderly folks are such lovely people. They have lots to share. I like to sit and listen to them talk about when they were younger. They have seen a lot of things come about in their lifetime. God watches over them even if it looks like he doesn't. Just like the little children God surrounds the elderly people in his embrace.
