How safe is drinking water?

I have a Eureka Forbes make Water filter fitted at home and another Zero-B make water filter fitted at office. Of late, people who consumed water from it fell sick and are suffering from water-borne sickness. This has lead to suspect the quality of water. Please tell me how can I check the water before consumption?
