you are wright and it is really bthe one of the beautiful and attractive places in india and i had been visited a place by the name thiruvananthapuram and i had a hold in that place for about 2 weeks and during that course of time i have seen what is kerala and because of this i agree with you..............

Sandwiched between the Lakshwadeep Sea and the Western Ghats, Kerala is a bustling little green-and-silver, coconuts-and-water state on the west coast of India. It is bounded by Karnataka to the north, Tamil Nadu to the east, and the Arabian Sea to the west. Thiruvananthapuram is its capital.

Every district in Kerala has it's own unique culture and characteristics. Thiruvananthapuram is known for it's beach- Kovalam, the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple and various museums and palaces; Alappuzha for it's backwaters, Thrissur, the cultural capital, Kottayam for it's ancient churches, Kozhikode for it's old world charm and the entstate's palm-fringed backwaters are inland lakes connected by a network of canals. With 41 west-flowing rivers, the backwaters stretch to almost 1,900 kilometers. The backwater routes date back over the centuries and have been long used for all transportation needs, in particular trade in coconut, rubber, rice and spices. Today, these waterways link remote villages and islands to the mainland and nerve centers of the coastal rancing Ponmudi or Golden valley.

Kerala's backwaters is the most popular tourist attraction of Kerala. The palm-fringed, tranquil backwaters were once just the state's trade highways. Kerala is her backwaters and lakes. They have dictated her history, shaped her present and promise a future by virtue of offering incomparable beauty and unique experiences.

Much of kerala's exotic appeal is centred in the highland area of the western ghats. Rising to an average height of 1520 m, the tropical forests of the ghats house rich flora and fauna. Not to speak of expansive, loamy plantations of tea, coffee, rubber and fragrant cardamom.

HISTORY
Kerala was bestowed statehood on 1st November 1956, long after Indian Independence on 15th August 1947. Beforehand it was three Independence provinces named Malabar, Cochin and Travancore. Kerala was the first state in the world to have democratically elected a Marxist government to power(1957).

The people of kerala are well educated. Kerala achieved the highest literacy rate of 90.92% among the states in India . In which female literacy rate of 87.86% and a male literacy rate of 94.20% in 2001.
Keralites are popularly called "Malayalees" for the language they speak.
The women mostly dress themselves in SARI (six meters of silk or cotton). The more convenient dresses like Churidar and Western fashion styles are popular among the younger generation. The men mostly subscribe to trousers and shirt like the rest of the world. How ever you shouldn't be surprised if you find them dressed in the traditional "Kasavu Mundu", a three to four meter long cotton twin cloth with silk border, as formal dress and a cloth called "Kaily" or "Lunky" at home as the informal dress. Mundu is more popular in the rural areas.
Malayalees are living all over the world. About 2.5 million people, that means about 8% of the total population, in the Gulf Countries are Malayalees. Also a large number of Malayalees are employing in USA, UK and other European countries.
The Hindus account for nearly 60% of the population. The rest of the 40% is almost equally divided between the Christians and the Muslims.
Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy. Exports and tourism also plays an important role.
Kerala is one of the most progressive state in terms of social welfare and physical quality of life.

Kerala has a single-chamber legislative assembly of 140 seats. The state sends 29 members to the Indian national parliament: 9 to the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and 20 to the Lok Sabha (Lower House).
