Is Kiasu-ism a Singapore-only phenom?

Kiasu or those afraid to lose off, is not only phenomenal in Singapore. I have been travelling around a lit bit out of Singapore and I saw it happen in other country too. Ask yourself, why do people queue for that Hello Kitty?. Perhaps they are crazy on collecting memorabalia. You can find it worthless, but not for those collectors. Have you heard or read that in US, people queue up long b4 the shop is open for that annual wedding gown shop sale. And mind you, some even queue for the sake of buying the gown at sale price even they do not yet have a groom or boyfriend for that.Isn't it kaisu-ism too?. Perhaps, in Singapore this is quite prominent things as Singapore is such a small country where reporters got noting much too write about. Or for once, MacDonald get them to write about it as a strategy for advertising and increase in their sale. Who Knows?

probably not... its just that we've put a name to a social phenomenon.:)

after all when there are fans/enthusiasts for a particular product/person, they'll do anything to get what they want. Its probably universal!

Oh please, kiasu-ism is everywhere. Its just an honor that Singaporean have manage to find a word to describe this unruly behaviour. Trust me, its not just in Singapore.
