Do you use your change to build up some savings?

When I was a kid, my mum used to collect some coins (2Fr) and keep them so she would have them as savings if we needed some money at the end of the month or for a holiday. I must admit that my husband and I we always do that too, and always get very surprised at how much we could save just in coins!

My Father used to have a basket on the top of his dresser, every night when he got home he would take the change from his pockets and put it in the basket. When the basket was full my Mom would take it to the bank and put it in the savings account. Most of the time this was used to take vacations with and it was always surprising how much was there. Wonderful subject.

I used to collect coins since I was young. We used to put the coins in the powder tin and used to buy things with these coins when it get filled up. Also, we used to have something called kudukka or otherwise known as piggybag(this one is made of mud) and collect the coins and small changes and used to save money. Right now I am having a big mud pot, which is used to drink water in which I put the coins and changes. I call this emergency fund. Most times when I get my pocket empty during the end of the month I used to take money from this big pot and use for daily purposes. Also, sometimes this small changes can make big money. I think it is a very good thing to collect changes in a piggy bank or mud pot.
