Can an employer date checks after the scheduled payday?

For instance, if payday was on the first on a month and the check was dated for the third. Is that illegal or just plain immoral? Thanks.

it is just with you that i have heard about an employer paying their employees dated checks. i think you might want to have that checked with your goverment. we have different laws in different countries. :)

I don't know about illegal, but if the employer was supposed to pay you on the 1st and the check couldn't be cashed until the 3rd, then they are WRONG- it is a breach of their duty as the employer. Is there a local labor board that you could complain to? The only way that I could see for them to justify this is if they pay on the 1st and that day fell on a weekend. In that case it might be their policy to pay on the next business day.
