I extract the oil from fresh coconut and let it boil for 30 seconds then when its no longer that hot, i would get swab of cotton and wet it with coconut oil and then rub it on my scalp. Your scalp would feel lighter and cleaner right after. Then i would wrap my head with some towels for an hour then ill shampoo. I also find virgin coconut oil that we could buy at grocery stores to be effective. No need to heat the oil and put them on your heat at least once a week.
