When You talk about food shortages in Africa certain variables come straight to my mind, climate change, war and backwardness and foolish, greedy politicians! I come from Uganda-and in this wonderful country, we have been investing in war or the last 20 years uninterruptedly!!!During all this period, the North of the Country was permanently removed from occupation of food production-fertile land would simply be watered by God and no crops raised on the land because the would-be farmers were turned into refugees in Internally dispalced camps,we know of the many wars in west Africa and bad politics in Zimbabwe where nothing at all has been forth coming in terms of production!.Regarding backwardness, people of Africa are mostly run by corrupt inept poiticians who preoccupy themselves with rigging elections, stealing public funds for self aggrandizements and boast of a bunch of bureaucrats with pumpkin heads, that have no innovations to promote Agriculture in the country-in my village, in this 21st centuary people still dig with hand hoes can you believe this? How can we go into mass production of food? Climate change is a global problem, but here again we dont see any focused policies to mitigate the problem-our pumpkin headed politicians are only scheming to rig the next election by saving public funds to ensure that every cash is reserved not to build irrigation dams, but to buy off votes from the impoverished Africans who sell their birth rights for a little tip and keep the political idiots in power for ever, this ofcourse, translates into a no change scenario in their sufferings, their poverty and their perpetual want of food!
