Womens Health and the case of the missing menstrual cycle |
| |
| I have a 6 month old son that I am exclusively breastfeeding. I hadnt had a menstrual cycle until about a 6 weeks ago. It was a normal period. Maybe a tad heavy, but I figured that was normal considering I hadn't had one for over a year. But the thing is, it seems to have disappeared again. I am wondering if it is normal for it to come and go while breastfeeding? Does anyone have any experience with this? Or heaven forbid do I need to break out another pregnancy test? | | | | | |

| | According to Web MD, the hormones released while breast feeding will block ovulation and cease your menstrual cycle for up to 14 or 15 months after birth. But as soon as you have one cycle you can get pregnant again and this can happen as early as 6 months after birth. So it sounds like maybe you might have to break out another pregnancy test. I would also encourage you to talk to your doctor as well. He/she would be able to give you more information about this situation. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for the advice. I hadnt even realized it had been that long until I was counting back, so of course, now I am a bit worried. LOL. I knew it could come back at any time, I just wasnt sure that once it came back, it would disappear again. | | | |

| | Unfortunatly the big myth is that you cant get pregnant while your breast feeding, this just isnt true! A friend of mine thought the same thing but she fell pregnant when her daughter was abut 7 months old. I suggest you see your doctor hun just incase, that way they can tell whats going on with you. I hope everything works out and blessings to you and your son :) | | | | | | |

| | Missed peroids and contuniouse peroids seem to run in my family between my sister and I. My sister didn't have peroids much, I think she found out that her hormones were out of whack, me, I was like the enegergizer bunny, I would start, and keep going and going and going......neither one of us have children though, I was pregnant 3 x and had 3 miscarriages. Mine, they told me was my hormones. Really there is nothing here that can really diagnose what is going on with you, in this case, only a trip to the Dr can really be sure, for there could be many different reasons! If you do not want to go right away, that is fine, you can wait maybe till mext month, and if things have not changed, then I would definately go. Good luck hun! | | | | | | |

| | Thank you. My cycles have always been crazy too. Thats why I am not terribly concerned. I just thought it was odd that it would come back, and then disappear again. Dont get me wrong, I sure didnt miss it while it was gone. | | | |

| | I think it is really common to have it back for one month and then skip the next month before starting to have them regularly after that one skipped month. I ahve heard of that happening to a lot of women after having a baby when it first resumes. | | | | | | |

| | There is a low dose birth control pill for when you are breast feeding. I would break out the pregnancy test kit and see your Dr just in case. Better to be sure one way or the other. | | | | | | |

| | My doctor never even mentioned that! I will definately have to check into it. Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I will probably break out a test just to be on the safe side. | | | |
