Our story begins with my grandmother from Puerto Rico. As much as this woman complains, she loves to be there and provide for her family. By provide, I mean cook. One summer, my family went to New York to attend my aunt's wedding and we stayed at my grandmother's house. This was actually a first for us in a long time. Upon our arrival she had a beautiful buffet set up for us and anyone else to stop by. It included many side dishes with a large, scrumptious pork roast. It was fabulous. However, nothing could have prepared me for the surprise we would have in the morning. About 8am in the morning, I woke to a plethera of smells coming from the dining room. Laid on the table was a massive breakfast including fixings for breakfast tacos, pancakes, various breakfast meats, toast, coffee, orange juice, water, etc. I quickly grabbed myself some breakfast and went upstairs to be alone and get ready for the days activities. Upon returning from upstairs, it had become about noon and I was scheduled to go out with the AUNTS for some shopping. Before we could get out the door, my grandmother demanded that we have some lunch. She had prepared a plentiful amount of a puerto rican rice dish and several tortillas. There was also a pitcher of iced tea and lemonade. I was still full from breakfast but I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I sat down and ate what I could. Thank goodness we went out shopping and walked around. I need to work off all that food and I was determined to go home and get some rest for the wedding tomorrow. WRONG! when we walked in te door the house was filled with a new plethera of smells. There were 3 main dishes, several sides, and even more drinks added to the list, including Puerto Rican rum. I tried to smeak away but she caught me going up the stairs and I did not have the heart to say no. This went on for our entire stay which ended about a week after the wedding. It took me several walks to shed the extra weight from that food. But it was well worth it. That's my crazy family.

wow. that's a lot of food to eat. i couldn't have done it. although i love spanish food. it's great. i guess if your grandmother loves to cook then ok. she was just concerned. lol. she didn't want you to go hungry. lol. that's funny. i would've gained like 15 pounds from all that. with my family you eat when you fix it yourself.which is fine with me because i've always fixed my own food unless we had a family gathering then someone would cook.

I think I did end up gaining close to that much weight. Nowadays with my own little family, breakfast and lunch is fend for yourselves. Dinner is all me. I try to prepare something really good for them at the end of the day. I don't think I could care about the family that much. Besides, I still say she went a little overboard. On the other hand, the food was really good.
