Help my ivy!

I have 2 Ivy plants and I'm looking for feedback on caring for them. Do they do better in dark, medium or bright lighting? Watering and feeding? I read somewhere that you should mist ivy plants since the leaves get dry.. does anyone else do this? What do the brown on some of the leaves mean? How do I know when to water? I've never had ivy before and I'm not sure what exactly these are.. I have one in the far corner of my living room, medium to dark light when the sun is not shining, I have another hanging to the left of a southern window, out of direct light. Re-potting.. when should they be re-potted? Should I wait for the roots to show at the bottom? Any suggestions at all would be fabulous.

I hope your plant is still doing well. The brown usually means that you are watering it incorrectly. Do not keep the soil wet at all times.Try to let the pot dry between watering, but not to the point of dehydration. I rarely mist mine but have also heard it is good and most plant do well with this method. I keep on by a window where it can get indirect, dappled light for about 8 hours and a clear 2 hours of only indirect light. They do not like direct sunlight for very long. I also have one in my bathroom that gets absolutely no sun. It get all the humidity it need s and is thriving. I do not have to water it as often as the other one and both can go many days between waterings. If you have roots showing at the bottom, re-pot it. Any pieces that break off can be set in a vase or glass of water for a few weeks to grow roots and then potted up or given to friends. Good luck with that thumb!LOL=o}

Ivy does better with some sun. I like to place the Ivy's where they can get at least 4 hours of sun a day. They like to be watered but don't drown them. Also fertilize a little every 2 to 3 months. I put a teaspoon of fertilizer in the soil and this works well.

I have to wonder if Ivy would like the heat of the sun as well, it gets really hot here and dry.

I do not have a green thumb at all but I did have an ivy plant a very long time ago. I had a copper and glass planter that hung from a window. You filled the glass vial with water and then inserted a spray of ivy. It grew roots in the water and would grow and coupd be trained up and around the copper hanger. It was simple and easy to care for. Worse comes to worse, a trip to your local florist or gardening center might yield some answers if you ask a professional what they recommend.
