At times, I've seen people back biting about boss's life and the way he/she dictates others... but at the same time ... i've seen people inviting them for dinner and stuff... do you think it helps and why? and most important would you do it for yourself ...

Having a social relationship with your boss?
I think it is very important specially in the working environment where to much pressure in job is present.. This will break the ice, and this will balance the boss & employee relationship equals good working environment, more productivity.. less problem.

Basically, I believe it is difficult to maintain a social relationship with one's boss. It is prone to be misunderstood by many as a**-kissing. Plus, there might be tendencies for the line separating boss and subordinate to become hazy and compromised. But, I believe that it might be healthy too to get to know each other as persons outside work. This will help make a working relationship healthier.
I suggest that one feel his way through a situation like this. See if your boss will welcome being invited to social gatherings. Some bosses do not want straighforward employees. In many cultures, it is not proper for a subordinate to extend such invitations to a superior. But it is acceptable the other way around.

I think it would really help to have a friend relationship with your boss, because you're more likely to get in less trouble if you do something wrong lol. At one of my jobs my boss is leaving. I wasn't close to her, but I did like her. And at my other job I am just getting to know my boss. I also think however it could make for an awkward situation if you are friends with your boss but they have to give you a "talking to."

I belive, there is no harm in maintaining social relationship with anyone, no matter if he/she is just your boss. But people start getting problems only when they mixes up personal and professional relationships.
If you really know how to maintain both relationship seperately, nothing harm in inviting boss for dinner and stuff...

There should be no social relationship. You are co-workers, not family, not friends. At the end of the day what matters is your own inner circle. Your boss should not be a part of it.
