I have a question, what is the easiest way to calm down a Doberman?

My husband had gotten our kids a New puppy about 8 months ago, for some reason he wanted a big house dog for protection. I stay at home caring for my children so the dog doesn't get neglected but, I am having this trouble with trying to keep her calmer. At night we pin crate her and we do the same when we leave, and at meal times. I take her outside seems like a million times a day. Since we live out in the country on a dead end road with no traffic. I can let her just run in the yard. She is so wild most of the time. I know she is still a pup but, what is the most gentlest way to train her to mind better and to be a more calmer dog without harming or making it worse! I am very open to suggestions. Usually I don't have any trouble training a dog but, this one I think is training me. Atleast I feel that way. We also have a Rat Terrier and a Chihuahua that is very calm. Lacey just devils them to no end and if she can't get enough attention she just starts to bark and whin until you will give her attention. I have never seen a dog that was so hyper and that needed attention 24/7. I am not having trouble with house breaking her, thank goodness. I do have her house broken but, the barking and whinning is starting to make my head hurt constantly. The other day I had to basically spend almost all day with her and when my husband and other kids got home she finally calmed down. She went to sleep and slept for hours. The only other thing that I can come up with is that she doesn't understand where the rest of the family goes during the day and this is irritating her. What suggestions do you have?

I used to have a dog who is also an attention-seeker. He whines and yelps whenever he doesn't see anyone of our family. He stays in our living room and is very close to us. One time we went on a vacation, we have to bring him along. The problem is he is not allowed to stay inside in our aunt's house so he whined all night and we do have to stay up and watch over him since we don't want to disturb the neighbors.
One thing I would suggest is that you get your dog a toy he can play along with. When he enjoys playing so much he would temporarily forget about you and your family. When you or your kids are leaving the house, try not to make contact with the dog. Just ignore her right when you are leaving, petting her and saying goodbyes would only make her lonely. I hope these tips would help you out.
