What are your veiw about cosplay?

This is so crazy i will bet many many members reading this wonder what cosplay really is????????? This may help illicit a few more responses ...............
Cosplay (????, kosupure?), a contraction (or portmanteau) of the English words "costume" and "play", is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, fantasy movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.

In Japan, "cosplay" as a hobby is usually an end unto itself. Like minded people gather to see others' costumes, show off their own elaborate handmade creations, take lots of pictures, and possibly participate in best costume contests.

I like cosplay. But I'm not fanatic cosplay fans^^
My sister who always like to cosplay. She give me b day present Ghotic cloth cosplay. wahahahah

I just learned what cosplay was when I was online looking for a kitty cat hat to wear because a guy i really like hates the beanie I have lol

so anyway, I found some website called cosplay something something and found all these cute animal hats. I kept doing searches and the word cosplay kept coming up, so i said to my friend

hey look at this word, i think it means something (because before I had just thought it was the clothing brand name, like volcom or something).

And he told me about it, and I was like

wow, that's cool!

the Easterners always know how to rock it. I love anime and video games and the cosplay outfits are so damn cute, how could you not love it?

I'm a cosplayer, so I'll say for my point of view
I think is a normal hobby, and only because it's not so normal in some countries, people think it's crazy and weird
It's always like that, some people just prefer to judge as bad thing something that they don't do or never heard about which is a wrong and old way of thinking
Some people like to dress like actresses or musicians only to look like them (using the excuse: It's fashion now) so why can't we dress like cartoon characters? Using the same excuse as some people: "It's fashion in Japan and some other countries!" hahaha
Hobbies aren't always things musicians or actors do, hobbies are simply things you like to do on your free time and don't hurt anybody
And we don't really think we are the characters, we only dress up to go to Anime meetings and take pictures and have fun, but when the meeting is over, we're back to studies, work... Our normal life as normal people
In my country (Brasil) we have the Carnival in February when people dress like "birds" in my opinion because there are some kinds of wings on their costumes. In USA some people dress like wizards, ghosts and etc for Halloween and nobody think it's crazy, right?
So it's the same with us but using a different culture, the Japanese culture. In some months we dress up like Anime characters to go to anime meetings and that's all^^

Cosplay is fun, as long as people have a level head about it. Lots of people go crazy with drama or acting "in character" that it gets irritating. Otherwise I enjoy it a lot:)

cosplaying is so much fun! although i haven't cosplayed.^__^ and i don't think i would be able to try it because i don't have the resources and i'm kind of shy.^__^;; i have friends though who are cosplayers and they are always excited when they talk about it.

yeah, it doesn't only give you fun, it also make one artistic and creative. making those costumes aren't easy! it takes so much effort and talent! one has to be a creative imagination and knowledge on types of cloths and sewing to make a very good costume! i really salute those cosplayers especially those who cosplay as robots!^__^

It's what I look forward to every year twice a year. I basically work to support my cosplay habit sometimes...
