What is your shoes for walking?

I do a lot of walking as a means of keeping fit. Most of this is done in fairly generic everyday shoes as I cannot change into sneakers everytime I go out of the office for a walk around the block. Is there any reason why this should not be beneficial? I wear comfortable shoes with good resilient soles.
