How To Make Your Own Instant Refried Bean Mix  

I love to save money and eat healthy at the same time. I consider myself to be a very frugal cook and homemaker. I try to save money in every way. Cooking with beans is one way to save money on the grocery bill. Beans are so very frugal to make. They usually cost less than a dollar for a 5 pound bag. You can do alot with a five pound bag of beans. Here is a great recipe to make your own bean mix. Keep the mix on hand to make your own refried beans anytime you want them. Refried beans make a great dip or filling for tacos, buritoes and so many other uses. It is also great to make for those gift baskets to give as gifts. Instant Refried Bean Mix

3 cups dried beans, any variety
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. salt
1 Tbsp. dried minced onion
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp. pepper
PREPARATION:
In a coffee grinder, food mill or blender, grind beans until they resemble flour. Mix all ingredients together in a medium bowl until they are well blended. Store mix in a large airtight container or jar in a cool, dry place.

Refried Beans:
3/4 cup Instant Refried Beans Mix
2-1/2 cups boiling water

Combine bean mix and water in a medium-sized saucepan. Mix with a wire whisk
until combined. Mixture may be lumpy. That's okay; they will just add
texture to the finished product. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring
frequently, cover pan, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 4-5 minutes or
until thickened. Mixture will thicken more as it cools.
