It seems that everyone is too late now, other than the English county cricket team that he is still contracted to for another couple of years that is. Now that he has announced his retirement, after that spectacular third Ashes test match. Regardless of what some people might say about having Shane Warne playing for their country, there were many countries that gave a big sigh of relief whenever he was out through injury or whatever. Similarly they are doing that now with Brett Lee who is also off injured for another couple of weeks. Those teams which are down the ladder somewhat and struggling would also welcome some assistance from Shane Warne. In fact the English want him to help them while he is over there playing County Cricket, i.e. help in the sense of showing the younger up and coming cricketers have to do certain things. The only problem with that is that the Australian Cricket Officials want him to pass some of his knowledge and experience to our own cricketers who are still coming up through the ranks. I do not judge the man on his personal life, because that is none of our business, but he is a brilliant cricketer and of course has a lot of knowledge that he can pass on to the next generation of Australian cricketers. One fact that many people seem to overlook is that he was once the Vice Captain of the Australian team and was outed from that position, due to issues in his personal life. Also if you look back at old matches that he played in for Australia you will often see him talking to the Captain, whether Steve Waugh or lately Ricky Ponting, about placements on the field etc. A couple we know who are very involved in Cricket told us that Shane Warne is actually one of the very best with regard to reading the opposition team and their tactics. This is whether the other team was from Australia or elsewhere and this talent he has is world-wide. I know his reasons for retiring, plus the fact of his age, but I think it will be a long time before we see another cricketer of his calibre, unfortunately. :)
